These days, most professional decorators will take the 'belt and braces' approach and apply paste in the normal way to ready-pasted papers. This ensures that the occasional problem of uneven wetting in the trough method does not occur. If you choose to use the trough method read the instructions on the label to establish soaking time and proceed as follows:
Cut the lengths as you would for any wallcoverings and roll them up loosely from the bottom of the length with the pattern inside.
Place the water trough at the base of the wall and immerse a length for the period stated on the roll label (usually about a minute) to activate the adhesive.
Slowly pull the top end of the length up the wall, letting it slowly unwind in the water so that the excess runs back into the trough (see fig. 22).
Match the pattern as with any wallcovering and smooth down with a clean, moist sponge, eliminating air bubbles as you go. Some of the ready pasted vinyls, especially thicker materials such as blown vinyls, may need longer soaking and standing for up to 8-10 minutes - full instructions will be given on the roll label.
